Tanumbirini Station sold to Thames Pastoral Company

Baldy Bay Pty Ltd  has sold the NT’s Tanumbirini Station to a business apparently new to rural Australia, and about which very little is publicly known – Thames Pastoral Company.  Tanumbirini Station was previously owned by Henry & Maria Townshend, who sold it in 2006.

According to Beef Central, David Connolly is the manager of Thames Pastoral Lty Ltd.  David left the AACo position of Chief Operating Officer which he was appointed to in May 2009, in August of the same year, along with AACo Chief Executive Officer Steven Toms.  The reason for these sudden departures was quoted in an Age Newspaper article as being because the ‘AACo required a new perspective’.  David grew up on sheep and cattle properties in western Queensland and began his career as a livestock agent; working for Dalgetys early in his career, mostly in SE Queensland, then working for 17 years with Wesfarmers Landmark.

David Connolly commenced work for the AACo as the Livestock Marketing Manager in 2003 and in the following year was appointed the feedlot manager as well.   Then, as described on the AACo website, ‘following an overall restructure in late 2005, David was promoted to General Manger – Livestock Operations, which now (sic) encompasses responsibility for all the Company’s Livestock, Feedlots and Breeding operations.’  The ‘overall restructure’  included the very sudden departure of AACo General Manager Geoff Wagstaff, after almost 27 years working for the Australian Agricultural Company.
