‘Australia’ film premiere to alter Sydney CBD traffic

Sydney CBD is a crazy bottleneck at the best of times, so road lane closures are a big deal. Most George Street lanes will be closed around the time the premiere of ‘Australia’ screens on Tuesday 18th Nov – from midnight the night before until 5am the day after (19th Nov). For further information on the road closure and detours, see the NSW Department of Transport information website.

Sydney is a hard place to impress. If they’re closing most of one of their main roads for the film premiere of ‘Australia’, the film producers have done a good job. More than 3,000 have been invited to the Australia premiere, a public viewing area large enough for 2,000 spectators is planned, and 1,500 people are expected to watch from either side of the impressively long red carpet leading into the theatre.
