Unique rural travel tips workshops during October 2016:
As well as presenting ‘Making photography work for you’ workshops, I’m thrilled to bits to be presenting a new workshop I’ve called “Ag travel around the planet – without costing the earth” at this year’s QRRRWN Conference in Roma (Queensland) and the NSW Rural Women’s Network conference in Broken Hill.
Because these unique rural travel workshops aren’t just designed to inspire; they will provide practical information to help the dreams become reality. Just a few of the topics that will be covered: how to ensure you encounter locals who are involved in agriculture (rather than just meeting tourism staff and other tourists, as you travel around), pros & cons of group vs solo or independent travel, exactly what to pack (& how to avoid excess baggage), tips on travel photography & making the most of whatever size budget you have. All tailored especially for rural and remote women.
Even those who relegated travel to the ‘it’ll never happen’ box will be inspired to turn dreams into reality – even if it takes a few years to come to fruition. Working towards a great adventure is fabulous for mental health and a great reward to have in mind if there’s any specific goals you have, that you’re more likely to reach if there’s something special to look forward to. There’s a lot that can be gained from the anticipation phase! These workshops will be illustrated with a wide variety of the photographs I’ve taken while travelling and sprinkled with travel stories.
I’ve been roaming around for a long time and very much looking forward to covering a lot of what I’ve learned over the years. This workshop will cover everything travel-related that I really wish I’d been able to attend a workshop to learn, beforehand!
The QRRRWN conference runs from 6th to 8th October this year, in Roma (Central/Southern Queensland). The Broken Hill Women’s Gathering – ‘Rocks Stars Rust & Dust’ – runs from 28th to 30th October this year (far western NSW).
Dinner speaker in South Australia – December 2016:
2016 is the 40th birthday of RICE (Remote & Isolated Children’s Exercise), and I’m delighted that I’ve been asked to be the guest speaker at the dinner in Port Augusta on 10th December. Follow RICE on Facebook to keep up-to-date with their birthday celebrations. I’ll also be taking photographs of children and families over that weekend, which I know will be so much fun! It really is a joy to see remote area children get together – these sorts of gatherings are such happy occasions. For parents as well as children.
