Equitana Australia has been held nearly every year since it began in Victoria in 1999. It was held in Melbourne in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2010; and in Brisbane in 2002. (2007 Equitana Melbourne was cancelled due to the Equine Influenza outbreak.)
It has just been announced that Equitana will be held in Sydney for the first time, and alternate every year between Melbourne and Sydney. The next Equitana will be held 10-13 November 2011, at the Sydney Showground (where the Olympic Stadium is located). Equitana Sydney will include the Equestrian Australia Grand Final, with dressage, jumping and modified eventing; plus the Australian grand finals for campdrafting, reining and cutting.
There will be seating for more than 6,000 people, 250 stables and yards accommodating nearly 1,000 horses and 100 cattle. As it will be the first time Equitana has been held in Sydney, attendance is expected to be huge.
At present there are 4 hotels (nearly 700 rooms) very close to Sydney showgrounds (Homebush Bay) however anyone wanting to stay within walking distance of Equitana Sydney 2011 would be wise to book accommodation as soon as possible.
